ANNOUNCING INNOVATIVE SUET WOODPECKER FEEDER
Feed suet to woodpeckers and deter starlings!
COLUMBUS, August 25, 2006 - Woodpecker-Feeder.com today
announced the latest innovation in selectively feeding suet to
woodpeckers and other clinging birds. Woodpecker-Feeder.com's
unique feeder successfully deters starlings and other
undesirable birds, yet allows woodpeckers to easily enjoy a
tasty suet meal whenever they want.
"This was a 6 year 'labor of love,' said Bill Golden, known as the
Woodpecker Feeder Guy. "I got tired of watching those
pesky starlings continually wipe my high quality suet out within
hours after I loaded the suet feeder. So, I decided to do
something about it." And do something he did. Not
only did he solve his starlings problem, but he significantly
reduced his suet usage as well!
Golden thoroughly researched other suet feeders, observed bird feeding habits, and
ended up training his most intelligent starlings as he continued
to raise the "feeding bar" on those resourceful European birds.
The design is close to perfect and Golden estimates that maybe
one in a hundred starlings takes interest in his feeder and has
great difficulty getting any suet at all.
Golden said it was never his intention to sell his feeder, explaining, "I
only wanted to solve MY problem, but then when I shared my story
with others, they wanted a feeder too!" So, Golden started
making woodpecker feeders by hand for his friends and neighbors
and the rest, as they say, is history.
Woodpecker-Feeder.com's woodpecker feeders are hand-crafted out of cedar
using a specially made 'jig' which drills small holes at a very
steep angles. Clinging birds, such as woodpeckers,
chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, and Carolina wrens, can easily
navigate the cedar log as they search for food while
non-clinging birds, such as starlings and sparrows, can not.
"My thought was to closely emulate a natural environment with a cedar log
consisting of small cavity-like holes," Golden said. "In
the wild, woodpeckers hop about tree trunks and branches,
probing under bark and in crevices in their search for insect
treats. Our woodpecker feeder design is an excellent and
effective 'tree' for woodpeckers and other clinging birds to
explore."
Woodpecker-Feeder.com offers both a 12 inch and 24 inch woodpecker
feeder, the larger of which is perfect for pileated woodpeckers,
one of the largest of the species at 18 to 20 inches.
Woodpecker-Feeder.com also offers a high quality suet product
that works very well with the feeder, due to its play-dough-like
consistency.
The Woodpecker-Feeder.com website is loaded with helpful information
about woodpeckers and suet, as well as tips and techniques for
installing, filling, and maintaining the feeder. There are
even photo galleries which show woodpeckers and other clinging
birds actually eating suet from the feeder. Excitement is
growing among woodpecker-feeding enthusiasts because, as Golden
says, "These feeders really do their job!"
