NEW WOODPECKER FEEDER DESIGN ANNOUNCED
New feeder is easier to use and still slows starlings!

COLUMBUS, June 6, 2009 - Almost 3 years after release of its initial woodpecker feeder design, Woodpecker-Feeder.com today announced a brand new suet woodpecker feeder design.  "We basically have made our starlings too smart for our original version,' said Bill Golden, known as the Woodpecker Feeder Guy.  "The starlings in our test labs can now hang on to our original model a little more than is acceptable to us, so we went back to another test model, refined it, and are now ready to go ."

Known as the 'Angle' model, this latest feeder creation is just as attractive as the original model, easier to use, and still slows starlings down, leaving plenty of suet for woodpeckers and other clinging birds.  Suet usage is still significantly reduced from that of typical suet feeders.

Woodpecker-Feeder.com's latest woodpecker feeders are also hand-crafted out of cedar using a refined process that removes most of the "right angles" that a starling might use to cling to the feeder, even while the feeder is in an upside-down position.  Golden shared that some of his intelligent starlings have been able to wedge both of their feet up into a right-angled hole so they can hold on just long enough to get a bit more suet than is acceptable.

"What we have learned over the years is that starlings are highly intelligent and highly adaptable to their environment," Golden said.  "When the fledglings (baby starlings) are out, it becomes a true feeding frenzy with all the adult starlings having an extreme sense of urgency to feed their young."  Golden estimates that the rate of suet consumption by starlings has been reduced by up to 80% over that of traditional suet feeders.

Woodpecker-Feeder.com continues to offer both a 12 inch and 24 inch version of their original woodpecker feeder model, the larger of which is perfect for pileated woodpeckers, one of the largest of the species at 18 to 20 inches.  Woodpecker-Feeder.com also offers a high quality suet product that works very well with the feeder, due to its play-dough-like consistency.

The Woodpecker-Feeder.com website is loaded with helpful information about woodpeckers and suet, as well as tips and techniques for installing, filling, and maintaining the feeder.  There are even photo galleries which show woodpeckers and other clinging birds actually eating suet from the feeder, as well as testimonials from satisfied woodpecker feeding customers.  Excitement continues to be strong among woodpecker-feeding enthusiasts because, as Golden says, "These feeders really do their job!"
